Le Saint-Bernard: a legendary alpin knife. Easy opening and folding smooth system. Back-lock spring made from 3 mm thick stainless steel Z20c13. A solid hardened blade stop is provided : That helps maintain the edge of the blade.
Customize your knife
Our specialty: Personalize your knife (first name, initials, date...) with a beautiful engraving of the spring produced by a professional engraver. The engraving is performed before the file work (guillochage) and the heat treatment.
Lock-back sytem
Its solid blade is safely locked while using, thanks to its precision mechanism, in addition this mechanism provides smoothness while using.
Stainless steel damascus blade
The Damascus steel we’re using is from Damasteel® and the patterns will last the life of the knife.
Hand chiseled spring
The spring is hand-chased with a file : This denotes artisan quality, unlike inexpensive mass market products that have welded springs and are machine decorated.
Display box
Each knife is delivered in an elegant presentation box, designed to highlight its beauty and provide optimal protection. Give or receive our exceptional knives in a refined case that enhances every detail.
The Alpine knife is also known as "Savoyard" or "Montagnard".
The name "Saint-Bernard" originates from the Great St Bernard Hospice, a traveller’s hospice on the often treacherous St. Bernard Pass in the Alps, between Switzerland and Italy. The pass, the lodge, and the dogs are named for Bernard of Menthon, the monk who established the station 1000 years ago. It was originally bred as a working dog, then later to rescue people who were lost in the snow. They carried a mythical small barrel of brandy around their neck to revive frozen mountaineers. The Napoleon's soldiers' chronicles tell of how many lives were saved by the Saint-Bernard. Their heroic behaviour gave birth to the motto "Nobility, dedication, sacrifice". This motto inspires the St. Bernard knife. The enduring strength, humble beginnings and unfailing craftsmanship are tribute to the name.
Besides its cunning design, this knife features our precision mechanism with its smooth opening system and secure locking blade.
In the Fontenille Pataud workshop, our craftsmen traditionally handmade outstanding knives for several generations, as usual in the city of Thiers. Each one of our knifemakers hopes to create especially for you a sustainable product that will become your every day to carry.
We are proud to say that our knives are handed down and offered from generation to generation, such as the Saint-Bernard with lock-back system, which allows a safe use. Much more than knives, our Saint-Bernard made in France are true life partners.
