Before the laguiole knife was the capuchadou knife, this basic knife had a fixed blade, a long drawn point and was made of thick steel. This old laguiole knife was a real tool for this people who used it in daily work: cook the meal, field work or animals care...
At this time, this first laguiole knife wasn't yet a folding knife and was handmade with rustic material.
In France, during several century, each region had his own knife, a big part of it disappeared although the laguiole knife which is become the most famous french knife in the world.
The laguiole design evolved years after years: fixed blade to folding blade, straight blade to "Yatagan" blade, bee spring and shepherd's cross, laguiole knife corkscrew and lock-back system.
Nowadays, the laguiole knife story is still evolving.
In the Fontenille Pataud workshop, our craftsmen traditionally handmade outstanding knives for several generations, as usual in the city of Thiers. Each one of our knifemakers hopes to create especially for you a sustainable product that will become your every day to carry.

Technical details
The Laguiole Sport knife was created in 2003 with Robert Beillonnet, awarded best French knife maker in 1997 and 2000. This Sport Laguiole knife is from far the best large Laguiole locking blade of the market. Its solid 3.50mm thick blade is safely locked while using, thanks to its precision mechanism. A solid blade stop is provided to hold a long life edge. A nice horizontal-vertical wearing leather sheath with a sharpener (both made in France) is included.
These stainless Damascus models can be collected or used as everyday carry. The Damascus steel we’re using is from Damasteel® and the patterns will last the life of the knife. The Damascus Sport Laguiole knife is a premium choice for connoisseurs.
Handle: Royal Ebony wood, extremely hard, dense, and heavy wood, with a very fine texture. Traditional Shepherd's cross inlayed.
Blade & Bolster: Twist pattern 160 layers Damascus stainless steel, 3.50mm thick. Hardness: 60 Hrc.
Size and weight: 13cm folded, 23cm open, approx. 200 grams.
Technical tips: The 'Bee' spring with its lock-back system is made from 3.50mm thick stainless steel Z20c13. A solid hardenned bladestop is provided: that helps maintain the edge of the blade. The traditional bee is solid and forged into the spring.
Included: Numbered Guarantee certificate, fine belt leather sheath & sharpenner. The sheath is an artisan product too, handmade in France with finest thick and soft leather. It is comfortable to wear, even when you're driving.
