Before the laguiole knife was the capuchadou knife, this basic knife had a fixed blade, a long drawn point and was made of thick steel. This old laguiole knife was a real tool for this people who used it in daily work: cook the meal, field work or animals care...

At this time, this first laguiole knife wasn't yet a folding knife and was handmade with rustic material.

In France, during several century, each region had his own knife, a big part of it disappeared although the laguiole knife which is become the most famous french knife in the world.

The laguiole design evolved years after years: fixed blade to folding blade, straight blade to "Yatagan" blade, bee spring and shepherd's cross, laguiole knife corkscrew and lock-back system.

Nowadays, the laguiole knife story is still evolving.

In the Fontenille Pataud workshop, our craftsmen traditionally handmade outstanding knives for several generations, as usual in the city of Thiers. Each one of our knifemakers hopes to create especially for you a sustainable product that will become your every day to carry.

The Laguiole Nature knife combines the best of the old and new. The traditional graceful of the Laguiole knife have been updated to include a smooth locking blade system. It is easy to use, beautiful to show and superior in performance.

Even if we have kept the  traditional size and shape of a classic Laguiole pocket knife, we have set a precision mechanism with a secure locking blade and a solid blade stop. These stainless Damascus models can be collected or used as everyday carry. The Damascus steel we’re using is from Damasteel® and the patterns will last the life of the knife. The Damascus Nature Laguiole knife is a premium choice for connoisseurs.

Handle: Real cow bone, 7mm thick; Traditional Shepherd's cross inlayed.

Blade: Twist stainless 160 layers Damascus steel from Sweden, 3mm thick. Hardness: 60 Hrc.

Size and weight: 12cm folded, 22cm open, approx. 100 grams.

Technical tips: The 'Bee' spring with its lock-back system is made from 3mm thick stainless steel Z20c13. A solid hardenned bladestop is provided: that helps maintain the edge of the blade. The traditional bee is solid and forged into the spring. The spring and bee are then hand-chased with a file: this denotes artisan quality, unlike inexpensive mass market products that have welded springs and are machine decorated. These details create a unique Laguiole knife, making each knife one of a kind.

Included: Numbered Guarantee certificate, leather pouch. The pouch is an artisan product too, handmade in France.
