An original Fontenille Pataud creation, discover our new interpretation of the Pradel, a famous knife from the west of France, but always made in Thiers, the French capital of cutlery. Emblematic knife of the rural world, the Pradel was the indispensable tool of sailors and farmers who appreciated it for its rusticity and efficiency. The particular shape of its handle allowed a good grip while being very thin to remain discrete in the pocket. Initially widespread in Normandy, this knife quickly conquered Brittany and the whole Western France. It was essential for the rural world to be able to bleed an animal, cut or pierce the leather of a strap, scrape a stick to lead the cows, and of course, to accompany meals taken in the field or on the farm.
English inspired, but made in Thiers since the beginning of time, it is difficult to attribute a creator to this historical model because many knife factories in Thiers and its region made this emblematic knife in the early 1900s.
For several generations at Fontenille Pataud, our craftsmen traditionally handcraft exceptional knives, as is customary in the town of Thiers. Each of our knifemakers nurtures the hope of creating, every day and especially for you, a lasting object that will be at your side every day.
The Pradel by Fontenille Pataud is the result of the work of our whole team of qualified and passionate knifemakers. It is only after several months of research and testing that we are proud to offer you this knife and its perfectly integrated lock-back. We hope that you will enjoy using this Pradel as much as we enjoyed creating this French folding knife.
