The London by Fontenille Pataud is our new interpretation of the knife of the seas, which served Breton sailors well for daily work, meals, or during breaks.
Inspired by the historical model, we've designed a sober and modern knife. Freehand engraving or scrimshaw offers you a wide range of customization.
Our London, like its ancestor, will be effective on land or at sea. We hope you'll enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
Hand chiseled spring
The spring is hand-chased with a file: this denotes artisan quality, unlike inexpensive mass market products that are machine decorated.
14C28N Stainless steel blade
The beauty of your blade is guarenteed for lifetime. We also offer a stainless steel Damascus blade: the beauty of the patterns will be preserved over time.
Engraved bolster (Stainless steel or Scrimshaw)

Customize your knife
Our specialty: Personalize your knife (first name, initials, date...) with a beautiful engraving of the spring produced by a professional engraver. The engraving is performed before the file work (guillochage) and the heat treatment.

English-inspired, he was named London in France ! this knife of the seas, which served Breton sailors well for daily work, meals, or during breaks.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was the quintessential sailor's knife, more ocean than Mediterranean.
The London is sober and elegant, but above all functional and efficient. That's how it earned its place on 18th century ships, where the atmosphere is harsh, sometimes aggressive or violent in this enclosed space, conducive to fights, and must be safe in case of heavy weather. The shape of the folded blade is probably due to the fact that every sailor could not board the ship without first breaking off the tip of the blade, to make it less dangerous. Since then, this straight-edged folding knife, a true design object, has literally been designed for its function, giving it a certain elegance.
For several generations at Fontenille Pataud, our craftsmen traditionally handcraft exceptional knives, as is customary in the town of Thiers.
Each of our knifemakers nurtures the hope of creating, every day and especially for you, a lasting object that will be at your side every day.
The London by Fontenille Pataud is the result of the work of our whole team of qualified and passionate knifemakers. We hope that you will enjoy using this London as much as we enjoyed creating this French folding knife.
